Boys in the Boat

Mariah was so kind as to bring along several audio books for the trip. Though we never stopped talking long enough to listen on the way to Atlanta while Kent and Mariah were with us, we did choose one book to listen to on the way back when it was just the two of us.

The Boys in the Boat, by Daniel James Brown, is a MUST read (or listen). About the Seattle, Washington 8 oar crew that ultimately won the 1936 Olympic rowing championship, it's a riveting story about a team of unique individuals in a pre-war, depression setting that gives a strong flavor of both.

Since we didn't finish it by the time we returned home, we played it in the background while doing a little fall cleaning in the house. Both the drive home and the cleaning project were accomplished in a flash.
