Where Did February Go?

As I look back in this blog, I see I missed February entirely. That's becoming another characteristic of my retirement lifestyle. Entire blocks of time go missing. Not in terms of their use, just in terms of their documentation. And February was really busy - I'm sure that's why I missed it. Starting with the birth of our first grandchild. That'll mess with your sense of time, for sure. You have to recalibrate everything. Then the rapid migration of child #3 and husband back north. She told us around Christmas time that they were planning to find new jobs in the Twin Cities in February. At the time we thought, "Well, it just doesn't happen like that, especially that quickly. So you'll start hunting in February, but it'll probably take a summer to find the right job."

Wrong (again). They started the search in January, and completed it for both of them in February. And planned the move, announced to current employers the disappointing (for the employers) news, moved, and relocated into temporary quarters in our home while they look for a new place to land. Bad bing, bada boom! Just like that. No big deal. Anne will be working for 3M in customer service, and Jon for Wolter Klewer in their IT services group in Minneapolis. Both jobs are a step up into new opportunities and income.

Lilo the Dog Takes In a Tourist Stop

Since they needed to bring three vehicles back with them (to include the moving van), we volunteered to zip down and make the drive. As your children's lives grow more hectic and complicated, it's important to take every opportunity to interject yourself in those moments they have no choice but to talk and relax with you. Locked in a car together for 22 or so hours does the trick. Bonnie and I rotated vehicles, alternately driving and riding, getting lots of one on one time with Anne. Jonathan "had to" drive the truck by himself, with nothing more than his music to accompany him. Needless to say, he was very relaxed when we arrived at our hotel destination each evening.

We're now sharing our ideally designed (lower level for guests) house with them as they search for new digs. That might take slightly longer.
