Change of Season

It takes a snowfall to really shift gears from outdoors to indoors. White on the ground allows me to offset the guilt I feel for sitting for extended periods reading or surfing or watching television. Up until then, I can't do any of those things for longer than an hour without getting ants in my pants. This year, given the long and wonderfully warm fall, my winterization projects seemed to go on forever. Everything was done without gloves, with the opportunity to do it thoroughly and at a leisurely pace.

Just this morning, before the snow started, we were still packing the trailer with gear to be stored until next spring. The outdoor faucets were drained and covered, with the final drips of water liquidating the first snow covering. As I sit in my living room peering out the window on the pine boughs now drooping a bit with white moisture laden snow, I feel ready. Three magazines read and relegated to the recycling bin already this morning.

Bustling in the kitchen on this Thanksgiving day adds to the feeling of change. The change of seasons signals the onset of the season of family celebration, turkey dinners, and hot chocolate. The table is set, kids and parents almost here (with one exception), and the comfort of the indoors facilitates a deep feeling of satisfaction, of thanks-giving, of contentment. It doesn't get any better.

We wish you/hope you had a happy thanksgiving, and that you can finish this year on a very high note, ready for season changes yet to come.
