I recently looked at the calendar and realized: I hadn't posted a single story here in 2024. Not one. After almost ten years making an effort to document adventures, reflections, and sometimes just odd crumudgeonly thoughts, the priority of writing and sharing just faded.
Some of it was due to somewhat less adventurous, less noteworthy, and sometimes repetitive adventures. Some of it was that I lost interest in pontificating. And some of it is that I often just find myself very relaxed and lazy. I suppose that comes with the evolution of seniorhood.
On the other hand, we find ourselves increasingly challenged to find time in our busy calendars for all the things we want to do, and yet remain flexible to opportunities to join family or friends at a moment's notice. The (what seems to us) rapid emergence of seven grandchildren seems to keep us on our toes.
In 2024, I found that much of the retirement experience was filled with quiet, meaningful days, alternating with meaningful family time and all its accompanying laughter and chaos.
So I’m back — not with dramatic new bucketlists or escapades, but with perhaps a deeper reflection on repeated and new experiences. For now, I’m going to focus that renewed “deeper reflection” on the Rock of Ages Lighthouse Preservation project while I’m in service as the boat operator for yet another (4th) season. We’ll see what comes of it.
Looking forward to following your musings Jan! Thank you for being our Boat Captain!!
